Samrat started playing guitar at the age of 6 and aged 10 became a student at the Junior Academy of the RSAMD, now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, RCS, studying part-time under acclaimed composer and teacher, Peter Stewart. In September of this year Samrat will start studying as a full-time student at the RCS for the BMus in Performance.
As a Junior, Samrat has won prizes in various competitions, including First Prize at the RCS Junior Conservatoire Prize for Guitar for three consecutive years (2015-2017), First Prize at the Competition for Instrumentalists ‘MusicFest’ at the High School of Glasgow also for three consecutive years (2015-2017), The Iain Fraser Prize for Strings at the High School of Glasgow in 2017, First Prize in the Louis de Bernières Renaissance & Early Music Competition at the Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Festival (BMG) in 2016, First Prize at the Merit Challenge Solo competition, BMG 2016 and First Prize for two consecutive years at Glasgow Music Festival, Solo Guitar Competition, 2016 and 2017.
 
Internationally, Samrat won 2nd Prize at the RAGO International Guitar Competition in February 2017, which was held in Stuttgart winning a prize of €1500.00.
 
Samrat was awarded the 2017 Sam Hutchings Memorial Prize at the Junior
 
Academy, RCS awarded to a student in their final year at the Junior Conservatoire who, ‘over a sustained period of time has demonstrated exceptional commitment and hard work leading to significant progress’.
 
As a performer Samrat has shared concerts at the West End Festival in Glasgow (2015, 2016 and 2017), the Leeds Lunchtime Chamber Music Recital (October 2016), High School of Glasgow Spring Concert playing Vivaldi’s Lute Concerto with Orchestra, Grossalmerode, Germany (July 2017), Classical Guitar Retreat, Isle of Cumrae, at the Young Artist Platform and as Guitar Foundation of America Summit Member in California, USA (June 2017).
 
He is also a chamber musician playing as a member of two orchestras in Britain: Da Capo Alba, Scotland’s largest mandolin and guitar orchestra and the National Youth Guitar Ensemble. Samrat has also played in chamber groups with other guitarists, violinists and orchestra members.
 
In 2016, Samrat was accepted as a member of the European Guitar and Mandolin Youth Orchestra (EGMYO) which gave concerts in Luxembourg and Germany during the summer of 2016.
 
Samrat enjoys playing various styles of music and his repertoire spans from early music to contemporary music of the 21st Century.
